QUOTATION (NO. 3)

"She was very generous, but she always wanted a return. She never let people forget what she had done for them- and, that way she missed love."

("The Mysterious Affair At Styles", Agatha Christie)

It's true that if we repeatedly remind others of certain acts of generosity that we did for them, either openly or through insinuations, in an attempt to make them feel obligated to us, then instead of sincerely loving and fully appreciating us, they may either start harbouring resentment for us, or at best, will be reluctantly grateful, more out of pressure than genuine feelings.

It's much better to commit deeds of kindness selflessly and quietly, in such a way as not to hurt another's pride or to burden someone with a sense of debt, ...and to seek reward only from God.

  1. Well, I feel it is necessary to remind some people of the things we do for them. They instead of appreciating think of the kind deeds did for them as something which they deserved. So take as granted the people who are taking time out and helping them.
